This DIY felt Christmas ornament is an easy and fun way to personalize your Christmas tree this holiday season!
I have so many wonderful memories of hanging all our ornaments on our Christmas tree growing up. It started with all of us getting boxes and boxes out of the storage closet that were full of homemade ornaments. These homemade ornaments are ones we would have made in school or even ones we have made ourselves on our own time. They were so fun to look at each year as we were hanging them on the tree. The homemade ornaments made the tree feel extra special. They personalized it.
That is why things like this DIY felt Christmas ornament are so fun! You can look back at it each year remembering when you made the ornament and who you did it with. It will unlock fun memories every time you see it.

FAQs
What kind of felt should be used for felt Christmas ornaments?
While high quality wool felt is never a bad idea, I got mind off of amazon. With it being something that is going to be in storage the majority of the time, I didn’t find it necessary to buy a super expensive piece of felt.
What is the best stuffing for felt ornaments?
A few of the recommended stuffings to use for felt ornaments are cotton, bamboo, and wool. You can also use a synthetic fiber stuffing like a polyester fiber fill.
How do you store felt Christmas ornaments?
You will want to handle your felt Christmas ornament with care. Try wrapping it in some tissue paper, newspaper, or put it in a box when storing it. This will help keep it from wrinkling or getting reshaped.
Supplies You May Need
Felt Sheets – The one I linked is a big pack, but it also very affordable and has a variety of colors. Keep in mind though that the felt sheets in this link are smaller than the typical printer paper size.
Scissors
Cotton/stuffing
Needle
Regular sewing thread
Twine (optional) – The twine will be used to make a hanger for the ornament. Although, the embroidery thread or just regular sewing thread can be used to make a hanger as well.
How to Make a DIY Felt Letter Christmas Ornament Step-by-Step
To start, create a stencil to trace onto the felt. You can do this by printing out a stencil, free handing one, or even having your kids write the letter and use that as the stencil. That would be a sweet way to make it special.
Next, trace the stencil on the fabric using a pen or sharpie and cut the letter out. Repeat this step again so you have a front and back to the ornament.
Now, taking the embroidery string, if desired, create a design on the front letter. This can be something super simple or something a little more detailed or even nothing at all.
Now, with the front and back of the letter pressed together, start the stitch going in the front one so the knot is hidden in between the front and back. Then begin stitching all around the front and back, but leaving a little hole at the end to stuff the cotton in. You will want to leave the whole at the top of the letter so the hanger will be put in straight. I used the regular sewing thread to stitch the front and back together. It was easier to poke through the felt and I liked having more attention on the design then on the stitching around the letter.
Add the cotton into the bit we didn’t stich, as well as adding in a looped piece of twine or string.
Close off the hole and you’re done!
