Here’s farmhouse hutch decor ideas that are beautiful, simple, and budget-friendly! You don’t need to spend lots of money to style your antique farmhouse hutch!

Farmhouse hutches are one of my favorite antique pieces of furniture. They’re a timeless classic that can continually be updated or restored to match any style. My hutch came from my great grandmother and was given to my husband and I when we moved out of our first home!
There’s many farmhouse hutch decor visions that I have for this piece of furniture. I’d love to change the hardware, remove one of the shelves, maybe even paint it one day. Sadly, though, now is not the time in our lives for a huge project like that.
For the next year or so, my family will be going through several moves for my husband’s military training. Whenever I take on the farmhouse hutch decor project I really want to be in a more permanent home. So, for now I’ve settled to decorate this hutch with whatever I have!
You can do the same! Most of these decorations I’ve either thrifted, found at antique stores, or gained from my grandma. I’ll share my favorite styling tips with you, some favorite decor items as well as budget friendly ways to find your own decor pieces.

Farmhouse Hutch Decor Styling Tips
Decide The Style You Want

Ask yourself, “what style do I want this to have?” Do you want a cozier feeling for your farmhouse hutch decor? Or, do you want fresh and airy?
Personally, I usually switch out the decor twice a year on my hutch. It’s annoying for me to have to change my decorations with each season. Instead, I try to pick decor that will be perfect for both spring and summer and then for fall as well as winter.
For spring and summer, bring in some crisp, light, and fresh colors. On the other hand, fall and winter may be the perfect time to incorporate moodier, more cozy colors.
Deciding the feeling you’re going for can guide you when it comes to searching for the antique items you’d like to style with.
Display Personal Dish Collections

While I’m not a *huge* collector, there are certain items I like to collect such as teacups! Teacups make the cutest farmhouse hutch decor. It’d be a shame to hide these away in a cabinet, so displaying them on an open shelf on my hutch is the perfect spot!
Maybe you have plate sets or beautiful cups that need showcased. Using them as farmhouse hutch decor is the best solution. Having your most beautiful glass and plate ware easily accessible also makes for great hosting!
If you’re in a house with little ones like I am, my suggestion is to keep your most valuable and breakable items on the top shelf out of harms way.
Collect Antique Books

Speaking of collections, start keeping antique books on hand! Throughout my house you’ll find stacks of two or three beautiful but well loved books to add height to another piece of decor.
I’ve found that this can help to elevate a space or a certain decor item. Personally, I love an antique or thrifted style as well, so collecting antique books fits right along with that!
Isn’t this before and after with the stacked books such a game changer?!
Don’t Be Afraid Of Color

Some of the most beautiful decorations are full of pops of color. This polish pottery bowl is so colorful and bold which I love.
So much of the modern style is to stick with white and neutral colors which isn’t a bad thing, but pops of color add warmth and character to a space.
To keep things somewhat cohesive, try to choose colors that are in the same family or compliment one another well.
For example, the primary colors I have displayed in my farmhouse hutch decor are blues and browns. There’s hints of other colors throughout, but those are the two that take over most!
Display Beautiful Cookbooks

Cookbooks are not only so useful but also beautiful!! Two of my favorite cookbooks are displayed here in my farmhouse hutch decor.
A hutch is naturally for either the kitchen or dining room, so cookbooks fit into that realm perfectly.
It’s also great having them on display so that I can easily grab one if I need to look at a recipe.
Here’s some of my favorite, most beautiful cookbooks that would look lovely on your hutch, too!

Use Trailing Plants To Add Life And Color

Like I mentioned earlier, I have an adorable toddler with another baby on the way, so plants must be kept up high!
Pothos are my favorite trailing plants. Setting them up as part of my farmhouse hutch decor allows their full length to be put on display which I love.
Seasonally speaking, plants are also a great spring/summer decorating item. Fresh florals or plants of any kind are an easy to way to bring in color as I was mentioning earlier.
Having beautiful pots to put your plants in makes all of the difference. Here’s several stunning pieces of pottery that would look beautiful on your hutch!

Make Farmhouse Hutch Decor Practical
Yes, you want your farmhouse hutch decor to be beautiful. On the other hand, it should also actually be practical.
Example: my beautiful polish pottery bowl also doubles as my fruit and veggie bowl. Another example would be the cookbooks I mentioned previously. Here and there I’m grabbing a cookbook to use one of the recipes.
One of my nicer sets of dinner plates are also arranged on the top shelf so that I can easily pull them off whenever I’m hosting dinner.
Add Homemade Personal Touches

Handmade crafts can make some of the best items to decorate with. For Mother’s Day I made these DIY Beeswax Candles that are an elegant addition to my hutch!
There’s more space on the very top of the hutch, so tall items like candlesticks help eliminate some of that extra space.
Dried flowers in a rustic vase stacked on top of several antique books would also look amazing!
This wooden bead garland was also a DIY gift from my sister in law. Would you like a tutorial to learn how to make one? Let me know in the comments below!

Don’t Overlook Grandma’s Stuff
Grandma’s style is seriously underrated. MOST of my favorite pottery items, beautiful kitchenware, or antique style decor came from my grandmother whenever she was getting rid of “junk.”
Decorating can be done on a budget and one of the best ways to do so is by frequently sifting through whatever Grandma doesn’t want anymore. Your mom, too!
Hit Up Antique Malls, Flea Markets, and Garage Sales
Another way to keep farmhouse hutch decor within your price range is to search for antique malls, flea markets, and garage sales.
Usually, great pieces of decoration can be found at these places for much cheaper. Quality is oftentimes a lot better as well!
You’re more likely to find classic items that have great bones but might need touched up a bit. Remember, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure! Try to see the potential in things that might otherwise get overlooked.
