These homemade chocolate covered pretzels are a fun and easy treat to make this holiday season! They are great not only for you and your family but also to give as gifts.
Every year on Christmas Eve we go to my grandmother’s home as a family. We enjoy a meal together, read the Christmas story in the Bible, sing songs together by candlelight, and lastly, open presents. We save the presents for last because to us, it is the least important part. Although, while it is the least important, it is one of the most fun to see everyone’s reactions to their gifts.
Each year, I would make my cousins family homemade chocolate covered pretzels for their gift. They knew it was coming each year yet loved it just as much as the year before.
I truly believe, and I am sure lots of others could back me up on this, that receiving homemade gifts is one of the best things. Although, not just homemade gifts, but homemade food.
Now, while these peppermint chocolate covered pretzels are a great gift to give away, they are just so good that you may want to keep them for yourselves. I will let you be the judge after you make them and taste them.
Why You Will Love These Peppermint Chocolate Covered Pretzels
- These treats are truly so easy to make. It is as simple as melting some chocolate, dipping some pretzels, and sprinkling some crushed candy cane. But wow, easy does not mean it takes away from tastiness.
- Like said above, these peppermint chocolate covered pretzels make a wonderful homemade gift to give to those you love. Put them in a mason jar, tie a bow around them, write a little note, and you are good to go!
- Lastly, chocolate covered pretzels are so satisfying to eat. They combine the best combo of salty and sweet, they have a great crunch, and also get perfectly melty in your mouth.
FAQs
What is the best way to dip pretzel rods in chocolate?
If you are making this recipe but using pretzel rods instead, the best way to dip pretzel rods in chocolate is to fill a tall skinny glass with the chocolate and dip the rods in the glass. It is an easier yet still very efficient way to go about it.
Do you have to refrigerate chocolate covered pretzels?
Chocolate covered pretzels need to be put in the fridge to allow them to set but once set, they actually do not need to be kept in the fridge. Chocolate covered pretzels are best stored at room temperature.
Are chocolate-covered pretzels healthy?
To say if a chocolate covered pretzel is healthy would depend on the ingredients used. This recipe is basic and does not require extra sugar. However, depending on what chocolate you use, there could be a good bit of added sugar in the pretzels. If you want a “healthier” option, use dark chocolate!

How to Make Peppermint Chocolate Covered Pretzels Step-by-Step
To start, melt the milk chocolate using a double broiler or in the microwave. I prefer a double broiler because it helps the chocolate melt evenly and it really does melt it quickly.
Once the milk chocolate is melted, dunk your pretzels in it, flipping them with a fork, and shaking them a bit to get excess off with the fork.
Place the covered pretzels on a parchment lined baking sheet. Once your desired number of pretzels are covered, sprinkle them with crushed candy canes and place in the freezer.
While the milk chocolate is setting in the freezer, do another double broiler and melt the white chocolate. By the time the white chocolate is melted, the pretzels will be set enough.
Remove the pretzels from the freezer and use a fork to drizzle the white chocolate over the pretzels.
Place back into the freezer or fridge and allow to set again.
Once set, the pretzels are ready to enjoy!
How to Store Chocolate Covered Pretzels
Chocolate covered pretzels, believe it or not, are best stored at room temperature. Keep them in an airtight container to prevent them from becoming stale as well as to prevent them from tasting like any odors in the air. An Airtight container will also help to keep them crunchy.
To keep the chocolate from melting, store them in a cool, dark place. Avoid keeping them in direct sunlight or heat.
If stored properly, your homemade chocolate covered pretzels will last for about 2 to 3 weeks.
