This salsa is not only the quickest salsa recipe, but it makes a nice big patch and is also the tastiest! Perfect for all the summer cookouts to come.
In the summer, after all the tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs and more are harvested, my sister and I do a big canning day. That canning day usually consists of making pickles, tomato sauce, and lots of salsa. While I love a good canning day, it is very time consuming for what can seem like little result. With that being said, I am all for a quicker way to “can” things. I have seen pickles in 24 hours but nothing much outside of that. Now don’t get me wrong, you can make lots of things that you usually can and just keep them in the fridge. Although, they don’t usually last very long.
I first saw a quick salsa recipe when I was scrolling on Instagram. Honestly that’s where I get a lot of inspiration for the recipes that I do. I made it and it was really good. Although, I just felt like a few things were missing. It needed some good, dried herbs and spices as well as a tangy element.
Why You Will Love This Salsa Recipe
- Quick – This salsa recipe is not complicated at all. It is super quick to whip up. The kind of recipe that can be made on whim which is the best kind of recipe in my opinion.
- Big Batch – From just 29 ounces (two 14.5 oz) of canned tomatoes and a few other ingredients, this salsa recipe makes a whole quart. Although, it won’t last too long because of how delicious it is!
- Versatile – This recipe is also great because you can control the amount of spice that goes into it. We like 3 jalapeños in ours although use as much or as little as you’d like.

How To Make This 5 Minute Salsa Step-by-Step
To make this salsa, start by chopping up half of a white onion into chunks and slicing the jalapeños in half. For the jalapeños, I take the seeds out of half of them just so it’s not overly spicy. For the tomatoes, you will want to strain them well just so the salsa doesn’t come out too acidic.
Once all of the ingredients are prepped, throw them all, along with the spices, into a blender. I use the chop option on the blender. Then, if I ever have to add more of something, I use the stir option. And seriously, that’s all!
Storing Homemade Salsa
When it comes to storing this homemade salsa, I keep mine in a mason jar, but any airtight container will work great! This salsa will last a week or a little longer in the fridge if stored properly.
This salsa will also freeze well. To freeze this salsa, strain about half of the liquid before placing it into freezer bags or an airtight container. Straining half of the liquid will help it to be less runny when it is thawed. I love freezing things like this in bags over containers because I can lay the bags on their side in the freezer and then they freeze flat and are stackable!
