Blueberry Cobbler Ingredients

Blueberry Cobbler Filling
Blueberries – This recipe uses frozen, but fresh will also work.
Maple syrup – I love using maple syrup because it’s a more natural sugar but still super sweet! If you’d rather not use maple syrup, granulated sugar or brown sugar will work just fine!
Whole wheat flour
Lemon Juice (optional) – Lemon juice can enhance the flavor of blueberries. Use the juice from 1/2 of a lemon to make the blueberry flavor pop a bit more!
Blueberry Cobbler Crumble Topping

Unsalted butter
Whole wheat flour – For the flour, you can choose to either use only whole wheat or only all purpose if you wish!
All Purpose Flour – For the flour, you can choose to either use only whole wheat or only all purpose if you wish!
Cinnamon
Vanilla
Rolled oats
Brown sugar – Using brown sugar is optional. The blueberry cobbler crumble topping isn’t overly sweet. So, if you’d like extra sweetness you can sprinkle brown sugar on top as well.

FAQs
What is the difference between blueberry crumble and blueberry cobbler?
Blueberry cobbler is traditionally topped with a biscuit dough or batter that creates a “cobbled” look at the blueberry filling peeks through. On the other hand, blueberry crumble has a crumbly butter, flour, sugar, and oat topping.
Does cobbler have crust on top or bottom?
Cobbler typically has a biscuit like crust on the top with a thick fruit filling on the bottom. This sets it apart from pie which usually has a bottom crust as well as a top crust, too.
How to tell if cobbler is done?
Cobbler is done when the topping is golden brown and slightly crispy as well as the fruit filling should be bubbly. Check the temperature with a food thermometer. It should reach 200 degrees when inserted into the center.
What goes in a blueberry cobbler?
Blueberry cobbler is made with blueberries, flour, sugar and lemon juice while the topping is made out of butter, sugar, flour, cinnamon and vanilla. Add in oats and walnuts for extra texture and flavor.
How To Make Blueberry Cobbler

First, in a large bowl mix together 4-5 cups of frozen blueberries, 1/2 cup of maple syrup as well as 3 tablespoons of whole wheat flour. Set the bowl aside while you make the cobbler topping.

For the cobbler crust, start by cutting the cold butter into cubes.

Mix the butter cubes with the whole wheat flour, cinnamon and oats. This will form a crumbly mixture. Your hands will get the job done but a fork or pastry cutter also works well.
Next, add the vanilla and maple syrup to the butter crumble.

Pour the blueberry filling into an 8×11 baking dish and even it out with a spoon.

Crumble the butter and oat cobbler topping onto the blueberry filling, spread evenly. Sprinkle brown sugar on top if you wish. Bake the blueberry cobbler at 375 for about 30-40 minutes until the top is golden brown and the blueberry filling is bubbly.

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or a glass of milk. Enjoy!
