From savory dinner recipes to light and sweet Spring-like desserts, this post is all you need to nail Easter this year!
Holidays that come up are a sweet time. They are filled with intentional time with family and good food. Although, they can be stressful. Especially if you are hosting big, or even small, groups. It can be hard to know what to make and what new foods to implement. This post is designed to give you some ideas for your Easter plans this year.
Every year on Easter we go to my grandmother’s house. She usually has the same things every year (which I love). It is predictable and it works so why change it if it is delicious? She is one of the best cooks I know. I truly believe that one of the reasons I love cooking now is because we would have cooking days together growing up. With all that to say, I am a big foodie. Honestly, I am passionate about food. I love that hosting and cooking a great meal includes gathering around a table with the people that you love. Hopefully these qualifications of mine will help you trust me with giving you ideas for this year’s Easter.
Main Dishes
The heart of the foods at a gathering is the main dish. Everything you make revolved around what you are having. You want the sides to flow with the main dish and depending on what the main dish is, your dessert will be on the lighter or richer side. Here are some excellent main dish ideas…
Our main dish at Easter is lamb. It seems fitting as we celebrate the resurrection of the Lamb of God. I found this recipe that has all the things that truly makes lamb delicious – lots of garlic and fresh herbs. I mean look at that photo!
If you’re not sold on the lambs, ham is another great option. You know a ham recipe is great when there is a dry rub involved! Although, when having ham as your main dish, be sure to not have too many salty side dishes since ham itself is already pretty salty to begin with.
Chicken is a perfect choice for family gatherings. It is light, simple, and really anything goes with it. This recipe is basically identical to the one I use, and it never fails to make the best dinner!
Side Dishes
While the heart of the foods at the gathering may be the main dishes, the sides can either pair beautifully with the dishes or hinder them. These sides are versatile and would go great with any meat shown above!
My grandmother does Asparagus casserole as one of her side dishes. While her isn’t done just like this, I thought this recipe was great! It is a lighter option if you don’t want it in full casserole form.
This honey garlic butter roasted carrot recipe is a great vegetable side dish if you want something light and healthy but also flavorful to go with your meal.
I think this one sells itself. Who doesn’t love cheesy scalloped potatoes?! This recipe is made with lots of spices and a combination of cheeses and would go beautifully with any of the meats shown above!
If you are looking for a classic veggie side yet want to also spice it up a bit, this garlic parmesan roasted broccoli is for you. It is massage with garlic, freshly grated parmesan, and a squeeze of lemon juice.
We are a salad family around here and I have a feeling that once you saw this photo you suddenly became one too! My grandmother usually does dandelion salad for Easter. Although, I couldn’t find a recipe that would do her justice. This strawberry salad however did catch my eye. It is full of lots of flavors yet nothing too strong and overpowering.
You can never go wrong with dinner rolls. These dinner rolls are from us here at Brick House on Green! They never disappoint!
Desserts
Now for the course that everyone looks forward to. Here are some Springy Easter Desserts…
These lemon bars are sweet and slightly sour but in the best way! The perfect Spring dessert.
This is my favorite cheesecake recipe. It is light and full of flavor. I have made it for people that aren’t even the biggest cheesecake lovers and they love. It is a no fail recipe!
This ones for all my chocolate lovers. I am going to be making this German chocolate cake for Easter this year. It has layers of coconut that add great texture and flavor!
Lemon blueberry is a classic combination for Spring which also means Easter. These lemon blueberry bars are easier than a lemon blueberry cake but still so delicious!
Do you feel more prepared for Easter dinner now? If you tried any of these recipes and they made your Easter dinner even better than the year before, we would love to hear about it! Leave us a comment of what you are having for Easter this year!
