These homemade sourdough croutons are easy to make and are not lacking in flavor one bit! They are a great topping for soups and salads!
It may be weird to hear but my family has always been known for the salads that we make. If you ever had a salad and don’t like it, it was obviously made wrong. A good salad has lots of different flavors and textures. You also can’t forget about having a good dressing! Although, what may be most important, is finishing off the salad with croutons.
Croutons add the perfect crunch and extra flavor to any good salad. Just like a Caesar salad is nothing without croutons, I think the same goes for any other salad. Croutons elevate it!
Growing up, my mom would make a salad to go with our dinner and set it on the table as we were setting it or preparing the other food. It wasn’t long before all our hands were reaching on the salad grabbing the croutons off the top. There may have been just a few left by the time we actually sat down to eat.
Homemade croutons are so easy to make and once you do make them, store bought just won’t cut it anymore!
Why You Will Love These Homemade Sourdough Croutons
These homemade sourdough croutons are simple to make. They not only require minimal effort, but also minimal ingredients and minimal time. They can be quickly made when you need to throw a last-minute salad together or add on top to a soup.
You will also love these sourdough croutons because you most likely always have the ingredients on hand. I use onion powder and garlic powder in just about every meal I make, so that is always on hand at my house. Having a good olive oil is a must in a baker or cooks home as well. The last thing is sourdough bread, and if you are on this page, you most likely love making sourdough bread!
These homemade croutons are also versatile. I am all for making a recipe your own. While this recipe has seasonings listed, there are so many other seasonings you could add to them. The flavor possibilities are endless!
You will also love these homemade sourdough croutons because you don’t need a big, beautiful sourdough loaf to make them. Every once in a while, a sourdough loaf of mine doesn’t rise well and just turns out dense. It is really disappointing because it is so time consuming and I don’t want to just throw it. So, making these sourdough croutons with those dense sourdough loaves is what I will be doing!

How to Store Homemade Croutons
Croutons can be stored in an airtight container or resealable zipper bag for up to one week. Try adding a paper towel in the airtight container or bag to help soak up any extra moisture or oil that may come off of the croutons as they sit. Store them in an airtight container in a cool dark place, like a pantry.
Keep the croutons away from humidity or moisture as it will ruin their texture. They shouldn’t be stored in the refrigerator as it will make them stale.
