Ah it’s finally here – peach season! Who else is excited? There are so many wonderful things to make with fresh peaches. Where do I even start? Some of my favorite peach recipes are peach crumble bars, a yummy summer peach salad, and peach galette. Honestly the list could go on and on though.

I was scrolling through Pinterest honestly trying to find motivation on what I should post. I like to be passionate and excited about whatever I post so that can reflect in my writing. Some weeks it just naturally comes to me and other weeks I have to do a bit of searching. Lately it has been the bit of searching kind of inspiration.
So, when I was scrolling the other day, I saw that so many people were doing recipes with fresh peaches. And of course, my mind went straight to peach crisp. I have a feeling that is because growing up my mom would make crisps pretty often in the summer. I think they are a comfort dessert for me at this point! Although, it is just the perfect dessert for a fresh fruit. We did another crisp recipe here at Brick House on Green for Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp.
Why You Will Love This Peach Crisp Recipe
There are so many reasons as to why you will love this delicious peach crisp recipe. Here are just a few.
- Simple – I am sure this one doesn’t come as a surprise to a lot of you because I say it a good bit in my recipe posts. Although, there is a reason for that. That reason is because I don’t think I would ever share a recipe that would not be simple. While there are times that I like to try new recipes and challenge myself, I have more of a desire to share the simple.
- Versatile – Like I mentioned in my last few posts, I love using fresh fruits and just fresh in general as much as possible. Especially in the Summer when fresh is more available. Although, believe me, I don’t always. With that being said, frozen peaches will work just as wonderful as fresh peaches. Even doing a mixture of both would be great as well. Do what is easiest and use what you have on hand!
- Light – We have had such a heat wave here in Pennsylvania. And the times that I want desserts, I don’t want anything too heavy because of the heat. So, a crisp is just what we need. It is not too heavy. Serve it with cold ice cream and it hits the spot.
- Delicious – Fresh peaches, a buttery topping, sprinkles of cinnamon…yummy!
Best Toppings for Peach Crisp
- Ice cream – You can never go wrong with a good scoop of ice cream on top of a crisp. The best summer combo!
- Homemade whipped cream – My grandmother’s signature to every dessert is homemade whipped cream and it is truly wonderful. If you need a super easy homemade whipped cream recipe, there is one in our sourdough discard strawberry shortcake post.
- Heavy cream – Pouring cold heavy cream on a warm dessert is so refreshing. If you have never tried it, you have to!
- Nuts – If you want some extra crunch, add some pecans and other nuts on top of the crisp.
- Combine 1, 2, and 4 if you’re feeling fun!

How to Make Peach Crisp Step-by-Step
If using fresh peaches, start off by peeling and pitting the peaches. Then slicing into thin slices that are about 1/4 inch thick.
Once peaches are prepared, place them in a medium sized saucepan along with the sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, cinnamon and thickener of juice.
Set on the stove top at low heat (about a level 3) for 3 minutes.
Then, crank up the heat to medium high (about a level 6) until the mixture starts to thicken, stirring every few minutes or so.
Once the peach mixture is thickened, remove from the heat and pour into the desired baking dish being used.
Now, create the crisp topping. Combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, oats, and all-purpose flour into a medium sized bowl. Mix until the ingredients are evenly distributed, and small clumps have been formed. Sprinkle the topping all over the peach mixture.
Bake in a 375-degree F oven for 25 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
Let cool slightly before serving and finish off with desired toppings!
